Vienna, 2021-11-09 – The value of imports of goods was at €13.55 bn in August 2021, an increase of 24.8% compared to August 2020, according to preliminary results by Statistics Austria. At the same time, exports of goods rose by 19.8% to €12.24 bn. The balance of trade thus showed a deficit of €1.31 bn. Working-day adjusted, the rates of increase were 20.5% for imports and 14.7% for exports.

The four most important product groups for international trade in goods are machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods, chemicals and related products and miscellaneous manufactured articles. Aggregated they showed an import growth of 20.9% to €10.46 bn and their exports rose by 18.3% to €10.17 bn. The highest absolute growth in exports was recorded with manufactured goods (+32.6%), followed by chemicals and related products (+30.1%).
