Austria’s trade and service enterprises not only make a substantial contribution to value added and employment for the economy as a whole, they also render many services for other economic branches. Statistical data allows both an extensive structural analysis and an observation of the economic trend in selected services branches. By enabling the calculation of harmonised and comparable indicators, the statistics also contribute to a better understanding of the economic performance and competitiveness of Austrian enterprises in the European Union.
The new version of the European standard classification of economic activities (NACE Rev. 2) is in the process of being implemented in business statistics. Starting from reference periods 2008 (Structural Business Statistics and Joint Stock Companies Statistics) or 2009 (Short term statistics) data will be disseminated in NACE Rev. 2. Due to legal obligations for Short term statistics historical (backcasted) data in NACE Rev. 2 for the reference periods until 2008 were calculated and disseminated.
