Number of deaths 12.7% higher than the average of the previous five years in 3rd week of 2021
"In the third week of 2021, the number of deceased persons rose slightly to 2 004. The excess mortality measured against the average of the same week of the previous five years increased for the first time in seven weeks, from 5.7% in the second to 12.7% in the third calendar week. At the peak in calendar week 49 of last year, this value was still 59%", says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.
